Word Nest

Word Nest is the small corner of the internet where I put what I would otherwise lose — a line about morning kopi, the way West Coast Park looks when the light is almost gone, the bus number I memorise before the bus arrives, the lamp I leave on when the flat is otherwise dark. I live on Clementi Avenue 3 and write in the margins of an ordinary week: walks through Clementi Woods, errands below the block, reading by the window when the estate quiets down.

This page is not a magazine and not a catalogue. It is a reading list arranged as rows — date on the left, a photograph and a few sentences on the right — because I prefer timelines to grids when the subject is time itself. You will find five notes here, including one from 12 November 2025 that I place at the root address of this site without calling it special. It is simply the note that belongs at the door.

The notes grouped below move from early light to afternoon to after dark. That is how I think about my weeks in Clementi: not by month on a calendar, but by the quality of the air when I step out. Early means the kopitiam before the queue, the market steps still damp from washing. Afternoon means the long hedge at West Coast Park and the bus shelter where I wait without impatience. After dark means the lamp, the corridor hum, and the memory of a night when sirens found me on Kampong Bahru Road though I cannot tell you what they meant.

I write in British spelling because Singapore taught me that colour and neighbour and centre are the spellings my eye expects. I write in the first person because there is no editorial desk behind this nest — only me, a chair, and the habit of finishing a paragraph before the kettle boils twice. If a line here feels literary, that is not performance; it is the pace I need to see clearly.

Start with whichever row pulls you. The collection page gathers the same notes under time-of-day headings if you prefer to browse that way. The keeper page explains who I am in plain terms — no credentials invented, no follower counts, no promise of wisdom. The doorstep page holds my email and phone if something I have written needs correcting. Everything else is reading, and reading asks for nothing but attention.

The ribbon above this page names Clementi because Clementi is the anchor: the MRT interchange, the park connector I use when I do not want the main road, the void deck where neighbours pass without ceremony. Word Nest is not a product name in my mouth. It is the phrase I use for the shelf beside the lamp — the place scraps of language go until they become notes worth keeping.

Pull up a chair metaphorically, if you like. There is no comment box and no newsletter — only paragraphs, photographs, and the quiet assumption that reading is enough.
